Two members of the National Guard were injured after an armed confrontation with alleged criminals in the municipality of Tangancícuaro, Michoacán.
The incident occurred in the community of San Antonio Ocampo, nine kilometers from the municipal capital.
According to police sources, federal officers were patrolling the area when, on José María Morelos Street, in the main square, they encountered the armed men who started shooting.
The National Guard repelled the armed aggression and requested support from the Mexican Army and federal forces.
The criminals, seeing that they were outnumbered, fled the scene, abandoning their vehicles and firearms.
At the scene, Wilbert A. and Andrea Guadalupe R., members of the National Guard, were injured.
The officers were assisted by their colleagues who transported them in a patrol car to a hospital in the region for medical attention.
The officers cordoned off the area and seized two vehicles belonging to the alleged attackers, along with weapons, cartridges and tactical equipment that were found inside the vehicles.
In addition, federal and state forces were deployed in the area in search of the criminals.
Agents from the State Attorney General’s Office carried out the corresponding procedures and opened an investigation file.
