Cecilia Patron Laviada when visiting the women and their families who are in the Center of attention and Shelter for Women in Situation of Extreme Violence of the City Council of Merida.
Accompanied by the head of the Municipal Women’s Institute, Yahayra Centeno Ceballos, the mayor made a tour to supervise the services offered and the conditions in which the place is located, which has become a space sure for users and their daughters and sons.
Focus on women
“Women who come to this place can feel safe knowing that we will take care of them, we will accompany them at all times and we will empower them, because in order to break the cycle of violence, you need to have the necessary tools to move forward,” she said.
When talking to women and workers of space, Patrón Laviada said that from day one of his administrationwas very clear that the greatest commitment would be to work for and by women and, therefore, has launched programs as “From woman to woman”, to grant credits to those who want undertake a business.

What is the Mérida Women’s Institute?
In this shelter, women in situations of violence extreme of Merida and other municipalities, receive attention professional during their entry, stay and exit, with warm, humane treatment and respect for their rights. Currently, it has 20 professionals working socialpsychology, medicinenursing, teaching and legal services, as well as administrative staff.

“Here we also take care of children with medical services, food and school. The services we offer are comprehensive and complete because we know that for the women who come to this place, their daughters and sons are important,” she said.
He also reported that this space provides training to promote the self-employment of women, through workshops such as cutting and sewing, making soaps artisanal, bags for ladies and courses on marketing of the products.
During her visit, the mayor painted a message on the mural addressed to the women who are there and for whom they will arrive. He also heard the testimonies of the users, lived with the girls, boys and adolescents.
Cecilia Patrón Laviada reiterated that this new form of governattention, support, care and promote the autonomy of the women are a priority.
