Concamin asks to unblock the Veracruz-CdMx railway section – Grupo Milenio

/

The Confederation of Industrial Chambers of the United Mexican States (Concamin), requested the corresponding authorities to intervene to allow the restoration of traffic railway on the Veracruz-Mexico City route.

The business group detailed, through a statement, that since last September 24, residents of the Puente Colorado Chapulco community (128 km from the city of Puebla and 170 km from the Port of Veracruz) have kept the train track blocked.

This is so that their demands related to access to water are met. However, the railway has met a large number of demands that the residents make as a condition for the passage of the train and its maintenance in the area.

“In the spirit of having a good coexistence with the community through which we travel, we have collaborated on several projects that the community has requested of us, but some of them go beyond the possibilities of a private company and are the responsibility of the State,” said Concamin.

The Confederation assured that the implications of interrupting the service in this section of the railway network that serves the Port of Veracruz and Mexico City, as well as the main consumption centers in the country, are diverse since they reach sectors such as the energetic.

He mentioned that this blockade also affects the operation of the Salamanca and Tula refineries. (fuel shortage and import of refined products), since it prevents the supply of raw materials for the operation of the plants, as well as for the automotive, auto parts, and cement sectors, among others.

In this sense, he pointed out that the impact on the agricultural sector is also worrying. Because this blockade does not allow 20 thousand tons of grain to be transported daily to the center of the country, which is expected to make animal feed more expensive.

Likewise, the chlorine supply for the capital of Mexico is affected, as well as the general containerized cargo that arrives at the port of Veracruz, due to the high inventory season at the end of the year.

“We ask the authorities for support to reestablish the rule of law as a basic mechanism for the efficient operation of various sectors of the logistics chain, which today are severely impacted after eight days of service interruption.”

“Likewise, we request the support of the authorities so that there are conditions to remove the railway equipment that is being held by the residents and to run trains in the area for the benefit of the development of the country, in accordance with respect for Human Rights and the principle of free transit,” he urged.
