With the approval of the reform that returns Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), as public companies of the State, the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic expressed its concern about the approval.
In a statement, the group indicated that one of its main concerns is the impact that a concentration of power can have on free competition and access to clean energy, especially for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The confederation said that these companies are essential to the Mexican economy, and are key to the generation of clean energy and the creation of more efficient energy consumption models.
Therefore, limiting their access to the regulation of secondary laws puts their competitiveness at risk, and limits the possibilities of a fairer and more sustainable energy market.
“At Coparmex, we are convinced that small and medium-sized companies play a key role in the development of a more dynamic, decentralized and innovative energy sector,” commented the group.
Against this backdrop, Coparmex launched its proposal “Clean Light for All Mexicans,” which seeks to promote an inclusive model that allows millions of households and SMEs to actively participate in the generation and supply of clean energy.
The confederation added that private investments have been decisive in expanding storage infrastructure in Mexico, which has strengthened energy security.
Therefore, a fair regulatory framework is necessary to attract new investments in public and private companies.
“The participation of SMEs is essential, since they boost the local economy and promote the adoption of clean technologies, reducing carbon emissions,” Coparmex added.
The group concluded by describing it as crucial that the State maintains its responsibility in the energy transition, since it guarantees a long-term vision that prioritizes social well-being and environmental care over market interests.
“We receive with interest the invitation from the Ministry of Economy to dialogue with all sectors about this crucial issue, highlighting the relevance of SMEs in the construction of Mexico’s energy future,” Coparmex added.
