The historic Cuban baseball player, Luis Tiant, died this Tuesday at the age of 83, after having faced several illnesses that severely affected him in his last years.
Due to his peculiar mechanics, Tiant lived the peak of his career in the 1970s and became an idol with the Boston Red Sox and later, a legend in the MLB.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Luis Tiant. In a major league career that lasted 19 seasons, “El Tiante” was selected to three All-Star Games and won 20 or more games four times. Tiant won two American League ERA titles: one in 1968 for Cleveland and another in 1972 for Boston. The Cuba native also pitched for the Yankees, Twins, Pirates and Angels. He was 83 years old,” the MLB wrote, lamenting the death of the former baseball player.

For their part, the Cleveland Guardians also expressed their condolences after the death of named miMember of the top 100 team.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Luis Tiant. In 1968, Tiant won the American League ERA title and represented the CLE in the All-Star Game. In 2001, he was named to our Top 100 team. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends and the baseball community,” they noted on the X platform.

​El Tiante, as he was known in the Major Leagues, left an important legacy that will not be forgotten by teammates, rivals and fans.
“At least people still remember me, for what I did all those years. I know what I’ve had to do with my life, and I’m lucky. I’m lucky to have played all those years. God gave me the opportunity to play. ” “What more can you ask for? You can’t ask for more than that,” Tiant mentioned in 2017, in an interview for MLB.com.
​During his career in the Major Leagues that lasted 19 years, the Cuban He compiled a record of 229-172 with a 3.30 ERA, pitching for teams such as Cleveland (1964-69), Minnesota (1970), Boston (1971-78), Yankees (1979-1980), Pittsburgh (1981) and the Angels (1982).
It is worth mentioning that, despite his achievements, he was never inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame.
