Mark Kennedy praised the patience of Doncaster Rovers with their boss Grant McCann following their late play-off surge last season.
The South Yorkshire side were struggling in League Two for a long period last year, being in the bottom four for the majority of the season before they produced an unexpected run which took them all the way to the play-offs.
Their run was eventually ended by Lee Bell’s Crewe Alexandra who beat them 4-3 on penalties to reach the final against Crawley Town.
The Swindon boss used Doncaster’s run as a good example of patience and club’s giving time for a manager to build something, despite early struggles.
“I think Doncaster are very good. They’ve got an outstanding manager, a really good team and a really good squad.
“In February last year, I think they were in the bottom four. I think if you allow somebody to build something or at least you can see they’re building something and you can evidence it, I think Grant is a brilliant example of what you can achieve and what you can do, and that’s exactly what I see with us.
“I’m super confident about what we’re doing but life’s not as easy or as straightforward as that, so it’s about getting results but I’ve seen too much from the team this year, even from today’s performance that can evidence the direction we’re going in.
“So that’s very pleasing but I’m bitterly disappointed there’s nothing to show at the end of it.”
Despite losing the game in frustrating fashion, playing Rovers when they did was a positive for the Robins boss.
Kennedy expressed the confidence in his side, stating he has no fears about facing any team in the division, regardless of their league position.
“I was really pleased coming into the game, I was pleased with playing Doncaster because I thought well, they’re gonna come and have a go at us, they’re gonna try and win the game.
“It’s when teams come and sit and defend for their lives is what’s caused us some problems.
“I was really pleased that we were playing Doncaster today and I thought it was a good game of football.
“I’ve got no worries or concerns of playing anybody in this league, none whatsoever, and I think we’ve proven that time and time again.
“Even in a defeat, the big thing is that we have to turn performances into results. Its’s a results driven business and that’s what matters at the end of the day.”
