He Dr. Jorge Rosenkranz Medical Research Award turns 40s to be one of the most important initiatives that recognizes scientific work in Mexicoand this edition broke a record for the reception of papers, increasing the participation of Mexican researchers.
This year, the awards ceremony reached a new milestone with the addition of a new category: Research in Molecular Diagnosticswhich reflects the growth and evolution of research. This advance underlines the importance of diagnosis as a central element in health systems, being essential to address challenges such as cancer, with an innovative and precise approach.
The award, which highlights the talent and commitment of national researchers, is an alliance between Roche México, the Mexican Foundation for Health, the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico (ANMM) and the Mexican Association of Faculties and Schools of Medicine (AMFEM), who seek to promote research in the most relevant areas of medicine.
This is a tribute to the legacy of Dr. Jorge Rosenkranz, who remembered for the development of the birth control pillwhose impact on medicine lives on through this award given by a diploma and 250 thousand pesos for the winning research work in each of the categories. Furthermore, resident doctors who excelled in specialties such as oncology, neurology and molecular biology They will receive a scholarship to carry out a research stay abroad. The winners received a prize of 110 thousand pesos and a diploma.
Maryet Pérez, Medical Director of Roche Mexico, expressed his satisfaction at breaking the participation record: “we received 320 jobs, which represents a 30 percent increase over the previous yearand a participation of 41 percent of women, which indicates and reflects the potential that women have to contribute to innovative solutions to health problems.”
In this editionreceived jobs from 22 states of the Republicrepresenting more than 190 research centers.
The winners in the five categories are:
Basic Research: “The combined inhibition of the enzyme indoleamine 2,3 dioxygenase and the CXC type 2 chemokine receptor exerts an antitumor effect in a preclinical model of cervical cancer,” by researcher Solangy Marcela Lizcano Meneses.
Clinical Research: “Intestinal colonization and subsequent infection of neonates caused by Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases”, by Leticia Verónica Jiménez Rojas.
Research in Biotechnology: “New real-time measurement method of the enzyme Nitrate Reductase (Nar) as a therapeutic target against enteropathogenic bacteria and its other applications in bioremediation and decontamination of treated water and drinking water”, by researcher José de Jesús García-Trejo.
Research in Epidemiology/Public Health: “Diabetes mellitus and serum mixtures of organochlorine pesticides in women from Mexico”, by Rodrigo Ugalde Resano.
Research in Molecular Diagnostics: “Cutting-edge technologies in the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 using RT-LAMP for rapid, reliable and affordable detection”, by Dr. Guadalupe Beatriz Xoconostle Cázares.
The works were evaluated by a independent committee that rated academic qualityits originality, the methodology used and the results obtained, as well as its contribution to the generation of knowledge in medical and health sciences.
In addition to this initiative, Roche México also develops innovative products and solutions at a global level: “We are very proud that every year Roche Mexico has greater participation in these clinical studies, with more Mexicans getting involvedallowing us to obtain more diverse data and better understand how medications will work in our population.
