Alejandro Malagon, president of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of the United Mexican States (Concamin), revealed that lIn the absence of the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrardat the Annual Meeting of Industrialists (RAI 2024), was because it is in Washington for the preparatory work of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC).
He explained that the work that Marcelo Ebrard will lead in the United States will be to pave the way for the review of the T-MEC.
“There are things to review with the Treaty, although first the coincidences must be found to begin to maintain them and put them where the discrepancies can arise,” he expressed.
In this sense, he explained that they will only begin to work on the revision of the Treated from the Next Roomso that they can have different dialogues between businessmen, to later find, together with the government, the way forward.
Regarding the topics that interest industrialists, he mentioned that they are related to the energy, the water issue, reforms, security and the rule of law.
Regarding the US elections, Malagón highlighted that both the Republican candidate and the Democratic candidate are giving “very strong statements about the Treaty; Although this is part of (their) campaign(s) and the medium, what they say is more political than what they are going to do.”
Of the possible impact of the Chinese investment in the review of the T-MEC, He stated that as long as the investments comply with the legal part of the market, it will not affect the Treaty.
“We are not closed to anything, what we are closed to is the lack of an even floor, the illegal issue and the fact that it is achieved with an investment of another type,” he said.
In this regard, he warned that what has to be done in the country is to work on greater national content, greater exports and better operational productivity plans.
