The Anthillwith its stage work translated into exploration, play, clowning, cabaret and object puppet manipulation, will celebrate the sixth year of the founding of its Cultural Center with the organization of the Sixth Ant Creation Festivalwhich will take place from October 20 to 27, 2024.
With the philosophy of carrying the theater to the geographical and social peripheries of Mexicorelying on the stage as a means to denounce and transform the realities of communities in vulnerable situations, the collective uses the interdisciplinary format to interact with the public.
They were previously in the Zacatecas International Street Theater Festivalwhere they were applauded during the assembly of The Circus of Lovers, with text and direction by Marco Pacheco and performances by Gianni Ríos, Cesar Ramírez, Sebastián O’Hea, Agnese Soncin, Charles Rodríguez, Diana Bustamante, Dylan Borjas of Gravedad Cero, David Martínez and Marylin Anaya.
El Hormiguero, an independent initiative dedicated to promoting self-management and artistic creation in communitywill celebrate its anniversary in the Utopia the Boat, from Iztapalapawith premiere of the work Water Belonging.
“We will perform on the outskirts of Mexico City to celebrate the performing arts that link communities that work and connect with their audiences.”
Water as a theme of performing arts
Marco Pacheco indicates in an interview with MILLENNIUM that in Iztapalapa they will work with great affection because they will establish a dialogue with different aesthetic and visual narratives. “Our scenic project around water, titled Water Belongingrecovers the importance of the conservation of this vital liquid, since beings are made up of 70 percent water, so we analyze and reflect on the connections of water and human life.”
Pacheco explains that they are excited because the production takes place in a very large space where you will see cranes, pumps and a live water fall.
“Water belonging It is a theatrical show where attendees will be able to live a great experience, exploring a topic that is vital, especially at this time when we are experiencing a water crisis.”
“We believe that theater should talk about our current situation and not only about the emotional and emotional aspects of our existence, but about our passage through this plane.”
It is essential to analyze and discuss such a social problem, such as the lack of water. The play will be located in Mexico City, although it will be talked about since pre-Hispanic times.
“It is a narrative that can be seen precisely from the creation of the five great lakes that made up the valley of Mexico: Xaltocan, Zumpango, that they dried. Like balloons they piped the few remaining rivers, and in the end, that is why we have constant floods, because the water always claims its natural place. We complained a lot that we were flooded, but the water and the aquifers were before us.”
That is why it is important to expose the implications of this situation, to be able to propose proposals, such as reforestation.
“It is very important to us to think that we can have much more vegetation in the city, in our hills and mountains that surround us and that can strengthen this water cycle.”
Pacheco’s intention is to put his works at the service of scenic creation and he puts on shows in open spaces.
The work Water belonging will premiere on October 24 at Barco Utopía, located in Parque Lineal Periférico Oriente, corner of Av. Luis Méndez, Eje 6 Sur, in Mexico City.
