Inside the National Action Party (PAN) began on process to renew the leadershipwhich means the end of the era of Marko Cortes at the head of the political force.
Applicants must compete in a internal election open to militancybut first, they will have to gather more than 30 thousand signatures, that is, 10 percent of the members, or failing that, obtain the support of at least 114 of the 500 national councilors.
Who are the candidates to lead the PAN?
Only two figures have raised their hands to take the reins of the most voted opposition force in the country: Jorge Romero and Adriana Dávilawho seeks to become the first woman in directing party founded in 1929.
After registration and verification of signatures by the PAN Election Organizing Commission, both have 45 days to carry out campaign (from September 26 to November 9).
Before, the candidates will have to face each other in a debateagreed to October (date to be defined).
When is the internal election of the PAN?
With the direct vote of its members, the PAN will renew the National Executive Committee 2024-2027Sunday November 10.
For this process, National Action called on its 302 thousand 982 members to participate in the 1,600 ballot boxes that will be distributed throughout the country.
What does a candidate need to lead the PAN?
In accordance with the statutes of National Action, the slate that obtains the absolute majority of votesor the 37 percent with a difference of at least five percentage points with the second place.
However, there could be the possibility of a second round in the event that no candidate manages to obtain these results.

Currently, the National Action Party is directed by Marko Cortesa politician originally from Michoacán, who since November 2018 has remained at the head of the institute.
Cortes Mendoza should have officially concluded his leadership in 2021but that same year it was ratified as leader of the PAN as the only candidate. For this reason, his mandate continued until 2024but its end is approaching.
However, his performance as president of the political party has generated annoyance among some militants, who even requested his resignation.
