Spain’s business, economic and political elite met this Thursday at the Parish of San Jerónimo el Real in Madrid, popularly known as the Jerónimos, to say their last goodbyes to businessman Juan Miguel Villar Mir, who died at the age of 92 last July. His son, Juan Villar Mir, was one of the first to arrive at the funeral mass, where he was accompanied not only by his family, but also by personalities such as Álvaro Fuster, the former Minister of Economy, Rodrigo Rato and the former president of Castilla La Mancha, María Dolores de Cospedal, among others.

Just a few days after the funeral of Juan Miguel Villar Mir, which will take place on Thursday 26th, the family will meet again for a much more cheerful occasion. On October 5th, his granddaughter Constanza –daughter of Juan Villar Mir de Fuentes and Cristina Palacios– will marry Daniel, her boyfriend for years, in Seville.

Civil engineer Juan Miguel Villar Mir was one of the most important businessmen in Spain. He was the founder of the construction company that would become the current OHL, as well as the Villar Mir Group, which brought together businesses in different sectors (energy, iron and steel, biochemical and real estate). Similarly, after the death of Francisco Franco, between December 1975 and July 1976, Villar Mir held the vice presidency and the Ministry of Finance during the Government of Carlos Arias Navarro.
