The president Claudia Sheinbaum considered that the sentence of 38 years in prison against the former Secretary of Public Security, Genaro García Luna, for five charges linked to drug trafficking, in part brings justice to the victims of the war against organized crime that was developed during the six-year term of Felipe Calderón.
—Do you think this sentence gives a little justice to all the victims left by the drug war from 2006 to 2012?
“Well, in part, yes, not all of it obviously, but it talks about how it is important that there is no impunity,” he responded.
In the morning press conference at the National Palacelthe president warned that the government of Mexico will seek to obtain the resources that the former Calderón Hinojosa official has accumulated, and proposed that—if they are achieved—they can be delivered to the victims of violence in that six-year term.
