Guerrero announces shelters in anticipation of tropical storm ‘John’ – Grupo Milenio

After the National Water Commission (Conagua) warned that the Tropical Depression Ten-E would be upgraded to Tropical Storm, with the name John, and that would affect several states of the Republic, The Guerrero government issued a bulletin with temporary shelters.

It is worth mentioning that the storm John will make landfall in the early hours of Monday, September 23 in Chiapas, after it gained strength in the Pacific Ocean and the coasts of Oaxaca. Here we tell you where the shelters are.

Where are the temporary shelters in Guerrero?

The Secretariat for Integrated Risk Management and Civil Protection in coordination with the government of Guerrero issued a statement listing 626 locations that could serve as temporary shelters across the state while the tropical storm makes landfall.

The information on the facilities includes the municipality in which they are located, the exact location, the capacity of people, as well as the number of families that the facility can accommodate. Here we tell you where some of them are:

  • Jose Vasconcelos High School (Chilapa de Alvarez): Calle 13 Norte No. 913, Barrio de la Villa. Capacity 80 people.
  • Municipal Police Station (Martyr of Cuilapan): San Juan Totolcintla. Capacity 100 people.
  • Calvary Chapel (Mochitlan): Calla Linda Vista, El Calvario neighborhood. Capacity 60 people.
  • Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School (Heliodoro Castillo): Santo Niño Street, Tlacoltepec Center. Capacity 200 people.
  • Municipal Gymnasium (Tixtla de Guerrero): Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Street, San Lucas District. Capacity 150 people.
  • Municipal Auditorium (Zitalia): Zitala-Chilapa Highway, San Mateo. Capacity 99 people.
  • St. Joseph Parish (Acapulco de Juarez): Miguel Aleman, Puerto Marques. Capacity 200 people.
  • Montessori Institute (Zihuatanejo de Azueta): Zihuatanejo, El Huijal Walk. Capacity 63 people.
  • Chapel of Saint C (Chilapa de Alvarez): Calle 13 Norte No. 913, Barrio de la Villa. Capacity 80 people.
  • Bermeja Auditorium (Taxco of Alarcon): Benito Juárez No. 06. Capacity 250 people.

What is a tropical storm?
