“I will govern for everyone, without hatred, for a prosperous country” – Millennium Group

Amid applause and harangues from Morena’s parliamentary majority and allies in Congress, Claudia Sheinbaum She protested as President of the Republic for the period 2024-2030 and maintained that it is time for women and transformation.

“On June 2 of this year, the people of Mexico, in a democratic and peaceful manner, said loud and clear ‘it is time for transformation and it is time for women.’ Today, October 1, 2024, the second stage begins, the second floor of the fourth transformation of the country’s public life,” he stated.

In her first speech as president at the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro and before 930 guests, including 16 heads of state, Sheinbaum vindicated women’s historical fight for equality and assured that she will govern for everyone for the benefit of the country.

“I am a mother, grandmother, scientist and woman of faith. And, as of today, by the will of the people, the constitutional president of the United Mexican States. I will govern for all, and rest assured that I will put my knowledge, my strength, my history and my life itself at the service of the people and the country.

“I am certain that together we will consolidate a Mexico that is increasingly more prosperous, free, democratic, sovereign and fair. I’m not going to let you down. I call on you to continue making history,” he remarked.

At the beginning of his 44-minute speech from the highest platform, he recognized his predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as the best and most beloved president of Mexico, comparing him to Lázaro Cárdenas.

“History and the people have judged him, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, one of the greats. The most important political leader and social fighter in modern history, the most beloved president, only comparable to Lázaro Cárdenas.

“The one who began and ends his term with the most love from his people and, for millions, although he does not like to be told it, the best president of Mexico.”

At the inauguration ceremony, Claudia Sheinbaum outlined the course of her administration in terms of security, economy and social policy.

“We will guarantee the reduction of high-impact crimes. (Felipe) Calderón’s irresponsible drug war, which continues to do so much damage to Mexico, will not return. Our conviction is that security and peace are the fruit of justice,” he stated.

He stressed that in economic matters the autonomy of the Bank of Mexicoas well as a responsible fiscal policy and a reasonable debt-to-GDP ratio.

“We will promote public and private investment; Rest assured that both will be safe in our country. We will not increase the price of gasoline, diesel, domestic gas or electricity in real terms,” he indicated.

He assured that his government will maintain the Welfare programs and that the annual increase in its budget will never be below inflation.

It will launch three new programs so that women aged 60 to 64 have bimonthly support; Children from public preschool, primary and secondary schools will have access to a scholarship, and older adults will benefit from health care at home, for which 20 thousand doctors and medical personnel will be hired.

He also stated that his government will make Mexico “a scientific and innovation power.”

Likewise, he made a summary of what he considered the “main principles” of humanism, which will guide his administration. Among them, he stressed that he will govern “with love, not with hate.”

Later, when reviewing 100 commitments with Mexico, he proposed 300,000 spaces in universities, gradually expanding hours in primary schools and increasing teachers’ salaries.

He committed to addressing the water shortage and, hand in hand with the State of Mexico, to carry out a project for the eastern zone.

The former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador He arrived at Congress at 11 in the morning and was received with ovations by deputies and senators of the 4T.

The man from Tabasco advanced to the rostrum, where he greeted the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Ifigenia Martínez, but ignored Minister Norma Piña, head of the Supreme Court, sitting at one end of the Board of Directors.

Twenty-five minutes later Sheinbaum arrived, hailed by Moreno, PT and Green supporters shouting “president, president!”

The president also addressed the representative Ifigenia Martínez and also approached Piña to greet her, which earned her applause from the opposition parliamentary groups.

In the presence of the Court ministers and next to Piña, the president defended the reform of the Judiciary by pointing out that the objective is to end the corruption of judges.

“Judicial reform means more autonomy and independence. Think about it, if the objective had been for the President to control the Court, we would have carried out a (Ernesto) Zedillo-style reform; “That is authoritarianism, we are democrats,” he indicated.

The session began at 9:03 with a quorum of 466 of 500 deputies and 118 of 128 senators, and adjourned after 12:30 in the afternoon.
