The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City reported on the beginning of a cultivation of marigold flowers inside the Penitentiary Centers of the country’s capital, with the aim that people deprived of their liberty obtain income from their sale.
This is part of the strategies for effective social reintegration carried out by the agency, through the Undersecretariat of the Penitentiary System, and in follow-up to the Program for the Strengthening and Promotion of Productive Activities and Job Training.
When did they start planting marigolds?
In the project, which began in June, 30 people deprived of liberty participated —22 men and eight women—, who transplanted the marigold flower seedling into six-inch pots, with a mixture of coconut fiber, agrolite and peat moss.
