Les Valseurs Boards Akson Studio’s ‘Chopin! Chopin!’ Biopic

Bordeaux-based Les Valseurs, producer of Yves Piat’s Oscar-nominated short “Nefta Football Club,” has boarded Akson Studio‘s period feature “Chopin! Chopin!” as the film’s line producer.

Set in 1830s Paris, the film will dive into Chopin’s personal and professional lives through 11 distinct chapters while also exploring the wider artistic scene of Paris at the time.

“Chopin! Chopin!” is directed by Michał Kwieciński and stars Eryk Kulm, Josephine de la Baume and Lambert Wilson. It’s produced by Warsaw-based Akson Studio — behind Andrzej Wajda’s Oscar-nominated “Katyń” and “Warsaw 44” — and co-produced by Polish Television.

“With ‘Chopin! Chopin!’ We are taking a bold step into production services, combining our dedication to international excellence with a deep passion for regional cinema,” says Charles Audinet, line producer at Les Valseurs. “Bordeaux is becoming a key destination for major film projects, and we are excited to be at the forefront of this transformation.”

According to the company, Bordeaux is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after filming locations in Europe, especially for period productions. As other cities experience modernization and industrial creep, Bordeaux has largely maintained its historic look, allowing it to function as a stand-in for other major European cities of the past.

“We are immensely proud to leverage the expertise and enthusiasm of local teams for this major project,” adds Les Valseurs producer Justin Pechberty. “The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region is increasingly becoming a destination of choice for international shoots, and we believe that Chopin! Chopin! is just the beginning of a significant new chapter for us as executive producers.”

The producers are keen to point out that bringing the production to Bordeaux has resulted in nearly 800 local hires, including technicians and extras. They say that a production of this scale demonstrates the company and the region’s “capacity to orchestrate gran projects and stimulate the regional economy.”
