Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner cleared of rape charges

Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner has been cleared of all charges over sex crimes unconnected to the three-year-old’s disappearance.

Brueckner, 47, has been on trial in Germany where he was accused of raping women and exposing himself to children in Portugal.

Madeleine was abducted from her parents’ hotel room in the Portuguese resort of Praia Da Luz in 2007.

Brueckner had been accused of three rapes and two child sex abuse cases between 2000 and 2017 close to the resort.

In the court in Braunschweig today, Judge Ute Engemann announced a full acquittal of Brueckner.

He has not been charged over Madeleine’s disappearance, but German police have been investigating him since 2020 for her kidnap and murder.

Brueckner has denied any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance.
