Marvel celebrates 85 years with a catwalk – Grupo Milenio

To celebrate 85 years of Marvela catwalk was held with emerging Mexican designers, who based their design on different comic book heroes, in the second edition of the Fashion Forward at the Creative Lab, where she highlighted the way Disney Consumer Products (DCP) promotes diversity and female empowerment in fashion and pop culture.

“We are happy because we celebrate 85 years of Marvel; What better time for Mexican designers to represent the Women United concept, where we tell the Marvel narrative that is very rich. These types of spaces are for designers to feel this empowerment and make it their own with the franchise,” she said in an interview for MILLENNIUM Giovanna Ajas, Senior Marketing Manager, at DCP.

For the selection of the designers they had to meet a series of requirements: be emerging, that their proposal was disruptive and that they show innovation in their proposals.

We collaborated with Fashion Week and brainstormed ideas to choose the right designers.we sought for them to have a greater coincidence with us and for them to have a Mexican representation of the image we have outside; “They gave us such a rich perspective of Mexican women with creativity,” she explained.

The designs were colorful and disruptive just as they were looking for, a reinterpretation of the Avengers, Spiderman, Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel Knights, and even Agatha franchises, the series that just premiered on Disney+.

Diversity and fashion

Marvel has a special division in which they empower people and look at all social issues, since they not only care but also take care of giving a place to all people within the content they handle.

“We took the initiative to make a specific address for these issues that are so important and topical, because they matter a lot to us. Marvel is a very diverse brand. We address many audiences, the tone and how we do it is very important, to be very careful with the messages we give, because we care a lot about the way we communicate and reach people,” he said.

For Dominique L. Hogue, Manager Inclusive Strategies, of DCP, it is very important to elevate Hispanic voices, especially Mexican women. She traveled from Orlando, Florida and was able to see the importance of giving greater empowerment to women through the franchise.

“I love Mexican women, they are powerful and sometimes they are underestimated, it is an opportunity to show five Mexican designers, what they can bring to the catwalk and show the world what they have to offer,” he added.

Marvel is characterized by respect regardless of preference, social status or any other situation; Hogue believes that this is why the Hispanic community relates to them.

“Everyone can see themselves represented regardless of social class or origin; we want to highlight that with designers, we don’t base it on how popular they are, it’s about their potential. Choosing lesser-known designers means how important it is for us to enter the community, find people we believe in and let them show their great work,” he said.
