Mets shock Phillies with another late-inning rally in NLDS Game 1

Mets shock Phillies with another late-inning rally in NLDS Game 1

They are usually down, but they are never out.

The cardiac Mets pulled off another late-inning rally to stun the Phillies in Game 1 of the NLDS in a 6-2 victory on Saturday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park.

The Mets’ risk of starting Kodai Senga, who had not pitched since July, seemed to backfire when Kyle Schwarber led off the game with a home run.

Nevertheless, Senga and four relievers shut down the Phillies from there and the Mets put up five runs in the eighth inning.

The Mets pounced on the Phillies bullpen in the eighth after Zack Wheeler dominated them, holding them scoreless for the first seven innings.

Six of the first seven batters reached in the eighth, while Pete Alonso and Starling Marte each contributed a sacrifice fly.

Game 2 is Sunday at 4 pm with the Mets’ Luis Severino opposing Cristopher Sanchez.
