David Valdés gave Mexico the first medal in the Chuncheon World Junior Championships 2024. After four exciting and fierce fights, Mexican taekwondoin won this medal in the category of less than 63 kilos and is the second World Cup medal in his personal account after the bronze he achieved in the cadet category in Sofia 2022.
On his way to the podium, David passed the first round bye and in the next he beat the Uzbek Shohjaho Yunusov 2-1. Already installed in the round of 16, Valdés eliminated the German Aslan Eymen Cavusman 2-0, while in the quarterfinals he defeated the Egyptian Omar Wissam Mohamed 2-0 and with that victory the Mexican secured a place on the podium.
In the semi-finals The Mexican had to face the local, the Korean Jaebin Jungwho after an intense combat and with a lot of combat rhythm, was left with the victory. Thus, Valdés achieved his second world podium after climbing for the first time in the cadet category.
Besides, Ana Sofía Guevara, in the category of less than 59 kilos, He achieved a worthy fifth place in this World Cup tournament. The national taekwondoin defeated the Thai Nutnicha Saimueang 2-0 in the first round, while in the next round she eliminated Maryam Sharif Mohammed Juma of Egypt 2-1.
In the round of 16 she beat the Greek Angeliki Georgiou 2-1 and in the quarterfinals she was beaten by Nuray Kaznabek of Kazakhstan with a score of 2-0.
In another result, Lucero Sheccid stayed in the first round after China’s Yinuo Xu won the fight 2-0.
On the second day of the World Youth Championship, the Mexicans who will take action are: Jorge Armando Rodríguez Cordero (-45 kilos), María Fernanda Sierra Cantú (-46 kilos), Saraí Guadalupe González López (+68 kilos) and Raúl Bárcenas Garduño (+78 kilos).
