Nigerian Governor Takes Action on Payment of N70,000 Minimum Wage

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has constituted a ten-man committee that would work out modalities for the successful implementation of the new national minimum wage recently approved by the federal government.

The secretary to the state government, Baba Malam-Wali, will chair the committee, while Mohammed Hamidu, the Head of the state civil service, will serve as co-chairman.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Head of Civil Service, Hamidu Mohammed Alhaji on Thursday, October 17.

According to the statement, the secretary to the state government, Baba Malam Wali is the committee’s chairman, while the Head of the Civil Service is the co-chairman.

Other members of the committee include the chairman Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Comrade Mukhtar Musa Tarabutu and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Bulama Musa.

The remaining individuals on the list will serve as members of the committee.

The ten-man committee will among other terms of reference also determine the financial implication of the implementation of the new minimum wage at the State and Local Government levels in addition to making recommendations for Government consideration.

Minimum wage: Governor Oyebanji announces payment

In a related development, Legit.ng reported that Ekiti state governor Biodun Oyebanji announced that his administration has implemented the new minimum wage.

The governor made the announcement during the 2024 Pensioners’ Day in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Sunday, October 12.

Oyebanji also announced that senior citizens would get consequential adjustment payments to their pensions.
