The Michoacán Prosecutor’s Office reported that it opened an investigation file in relation to the death of a man, who allegedly took away a police officer’s weapon and then committed suicide.
The institution said that after the incident, a teenager was also injured.
According to preliminary data collected at the scene by agents of the Prosecutor’s Office, everything happened on Francisco I. Madero Avenue, corner of Ignacio Zaragoza Street.
At the scene, while a member of the Morelia Police was carrying out her work duties on the aforementioned avenue, a man approached her, took her weapon, ran and activated it, depriving himself of his life.
The young man, between 25 and 30 years old, who has not yet been identified, died instantly, while a teenager, apparently 16 years old, was injured.
At the site, the Crime Scene and Expert Services Unit (USPEC) fixed, packed and secured the .9 millimeter caliber firearm, in addition to other objects, and required the officer to disclaim any responsibility.
Finally, he said that investigations continue to clarify the incident.
