Red Sox prospects clean up top honors at MiLB Awards

Major League Baseball announced its second annual Minor League Awards on Monday night, and the Red Sox cleaned up top honors.

Infielder Kristian Campbell was honored as both Minor League Hitting Prospect of the Year and as Breakout Player of the Year, and he was also joined by outfielders Roman Anthony and Jhostynxon Garcia as All-MiLB Prospects First Team selections.

The Red Sox were the only organization to have three players named All-MiLB selections.

The accolades are just the latest for Campbell, who has earned wide recognition as the best hitter in the minors last season. Originally a fourth-round pick out of Georgia Tech in 2023, Campbell exceeded all expectations by batting .330 with 20 home runs, 24 stolen bases and a .997 OPS in 115 games between three levels (High-A to Triple-A).

Originally not even regarded as one of Boston’s top 30 prospects, Campbell is now considered among the best in the sport and will be a strong contender to earn a spot on Boston’s Opening Day roster in 2025.

Anthony was similarly impressive, batting .291 with 18 home runs, 65 RBI, 21 stolen bases and an .894 OPS in 119 games between Double-A and Triple-A. Still only 20 years old, Anthony recently became MLB’s No. 1 prospect according to Baseball America and could also factor into the big league equation next spring.

Garcia may not be quite ready for the majors, but he enjoyed an impressive breakout in 2024. The 21-year-old rose from Low-A to Double-A and enjoyed his best season as a pro, batting .286 with a career-high 23 home runs, 66 RBI and 17 stolen bases. He hits the ball harder than just about anyone in the Red Sox system and will be one to watch heading into 2025.
