Russian astronauts land after breaking record for time in space – Grupo Milenio

Kazakhstan /

A Soyuz capsule carrying Two Russian cosmonauts and one American astronaut from the International Space Station landed in Kazakhstan on Monday, ending a record stay for the Russian couple.

The capsule landed in the Kazakh steppe about three and a half hours after undocking from the space station in a seemingly uneventful descent.

In the last stage of landing, he descended under a red and white parachute to about 7.2 meters per second, with small rockets fired in the final seconds to cushion the landing.

The astronauts were removed from the capsule and placed in nearby chairs to help them adjust to gravity, then they were given medical examinations in a nearby tent.

Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub returned after 374 days aboard the space station; on Friday they broke the record for the longest continuous stay there. The American was also in the capsule Tracy Dysonwhich remained on the space station for six months.

Eight astronauts remain on the station, including Americans Butch Wilmore and Suni Williamswho have far exceeded their planned stay.

The two arrived in June as the first crew aboard the Boeing’s new Starliner capsuleBut its journey was marred by propellant problems and helium leaks, and the US space agency NASA decided that returning on the Starliner was too dangerous.

This is how they landed:

The two astronauts will return home with SpaceX next year.
