The biopharmaceutical company Sanofi will invest two thousand 300 million pesos in Ocoyoacac, State of Mexico, for a manufacturing site.
This investment will be through its consumer unit, Opella; that so far, of the total amount, one thousand 100 million pesos are destined for Aztlán Project, a new Enterogermina production center, which will generate 500 direct jobs.
What benefits will this investment bring to Mexico?
The CEO of Opella, Matías Caride, assured that they are helping to make Mexico a regional center of production of one of the most recognized probiotics and sold around the world.
“We extend our most sincere gratitude to the Government of Mexico, the State of Mexico and the French Embassy for making this investment possible, which allows us to reaffirm our commitment and trust in this country,” stated Matías Caride.
Boost for sustainability
At the same time, he noted that they are promoting sustainability, since their ambition is to have a plant with 100 percent renewable energy, recyclable packaging and a carbon production process neutral, where they will allocate a large part of the other announced amount.
Details of the Aztlán Project
The Aztlán Project consists of the remodeling of three thousand square meters in a building of the current plant, to have a manufacturing site with the capacity to produce 200 million mini bottles of Enterogermina.
Sanofi explained, through a statement, that the production of this probiotic in Mexico will contribute to the growth of regional exports, eliminating the current annual import of 25 million euros (approximately 542 million pesos) and increasing exports to almost 80 million euros (approximately 1,735 million pesos).
The manufacturing site that Opella, Sanofi’s consumer unit, plans to launch in 2028, will allow Mexico to be a regional production center for Enterogerminaone of the star products in the fight against diarrheal diseases, which is among the leading causes of death in children under five years of age, according to the World Health Organization.
The announcement was made in the presence of the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard; the governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez; the general director of Opella in Mexico, Matías Caride; the French ambassador to Mexico, Delphine Borione; and representatives of federal and local governments.
