President Claudia Sheinbaum challenged critics of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA)—built in the previous six-year term—to give an opinion on the Versalles award that the air terminal received as one of the most beautiful achievements in architecture and design in the world. .
In her morning press conference at the National Palace, the president celebrated the award to the airport located in Santa Lucía, and congratulated the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) for its construction.
“Look, nothing but surprise!, right? They said so much about Felipe Ángeles, from the IAFA, what a terrible airport, that the one in Texcoco had been built. Well, all the criticism it received, let’s see now what they all say about the international award it received as one of the airports or one of the most beautiful architectures in the world.
“You already know my opinion, but let’s see what others say, let’s see what they say now about the Versailles award, which says that it is one of the most beautiful airports, so that’s great, it gives me great pleasure and many congratulations to the Secretariat of the National Defense, which was the one who built it and in particular the Felipe Ángeles group of military engineers,” he explained.
Sheinbaum Pardo maintained that his government will continue working with military engineers for the construction of infrastructure works, but he specified that private initiative will not be left out.
“We are going to continue working with them (military) on different infrastructure works, just as we are going to continue working on open public tenders for the participation of private construction companies, we are going to continue working because they are very good.
“It costs half as much, it is done in half the time and they receive international awards for the most beautiful constructions,” he highlighted.
