However, with Brits left in shock after Costa ‘abruptly’ shut one of it’s stores for good this month, many of us may be thinking of making our favourite drinks at home instead.

With that in mind, TikToker Chi revealed her homemade pumpkin spice latte recipe, which takes less than a minute to make.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe

To make the coffee, Chi revealed that you will need:

  • Two tablespoons of pumpkin puree
  • One tablespoon of maple syrup
  • One teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • A quarter of a teaspoon of nutmeg
  • A quarter of a teaspoon of ginger
  • One eighth of a teaspoon of clove
  • 200ml of milk
  • One double shot of espresso

“Making a pumpkin spiced latte with real pumpkin is easy”, she said.

Demonstrating her method, Chi mixed all of the spices together, to make the “pumpkin spice” and added it to a large mug, alongside the pumpkin puree.

Then, she heated up the milk and poured it over the mixture.

“Add in some maple syrup if you like it sweet”, she said.

Using a frother, Chi then mixed all of the ingredients together, and the added in the double shot of espresso.

“If you like, add in some whipped cream”, Chi suggested.

To finish off the coffee, Chi poured some more of the mixed spices on top of the cream, and voila, a pumpkin spiced latte made in less than one minute.

Why is everyone obsessed with Pumpkin Spice?

Pumpkin spice has become a cultural phenomenon, a staple flavour and scent as autumn begins.

No surprise, it originated from America, referencing the pumpkin spice mix used to flavour Thanksgiving’s pumpkin pie.

Matt Johnson, PhD explained the psychology behind our obsession with pumpkin spice. He said: “With each passing fall season, pumpkin spice becomes more and more iconic.

“The flavour and scent [have] become inextricably tied to memories of autumn, Christmas holidays and traditions, creating an emotional connection that brands capitalise on.”

The professor explained how the general flavour or pumpkin spice is “rooted in the seasonal foods we typically enjoy during autumn”, and has become so iconic, it returns bigger and better every year.

Not only does it impact food and drinks, but autumnal interior design has exploded over the past few years, and households actively decorate their houses with seasonal displays.

“I agree, so much better than Starbucks”, Chi replied.

A second person said: “Yum, pumpkin spice season is here.”

A third person said: “Looks delish.”

A fourth added: “This looks so good!

“I have to try it.”
