Specialists predict lower economic growth for Mexico: Banxico- Grupo Milenio

The specialists consulted by the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) reduced their expectation of growth for the Mexican economy at the end of this year and by 2025.

According to their monthly survey as of September, they lowered their average estimate from 1.60 to 1.46 percent to end this 2024, while for next year it changed from 1.50 to 1.20 percent.

“The average probability of a decline in GDP decreased relative to the previous month for the third quarter of 2024, as well as the first and second quarters of 2025, while increasing for the fourth quarter of 2024 and the third 2025,” the report explained.

Regarding general and underlying inflation expectations for the end of 2024, they decreased in relation to the August survey, while at the end of the following year they remained at similar levels.

They anticipate that the inflation It will end this year at a level of 4.44 percent, a figure lower than what was expected in August of 4.64 percent, while they expect 2024 to end at 3.8 percent.

Regarding expectations about the level of the exchange rate of the peso against the dollar US for the 2024 and 2025 closures increased relative to the previous survey.

They expect the dollar to end the year at a level of 19.66 pesos per unit, while in 2025 it will be 19.81.

Regarding the financial requirements of the public sector now that the new government has entered, the perspectives of the analysts consulted by Banxico show that by the end of 2024 they remained at levels similar to those of August. By the end of 2025, forecasts for this indicator increased compared to the previous survey, although the corresponding median remained unchanged.
