Storm ‘Milton’. Which states will it affect in its journey through Mexico – Grupo Milenio

Yesterday, the tropical storm Milton was formed in the Atlantic Oceanin the middle of a season that has already seen several phenomena of great magnitude, and after the evolution of Leslie and Kirk. After a few hours, Alejandra Méndez Girón, coordinator of the National Meteorological Service (SMN), reported that could intensify into a category 1 hurricane between early Sunday and Monday.

By Tuesday, it is expected that Milton could reach category 2 or 3. Likewise, by Wednesday it would be moving away from the country’s coasts towards the United States.

What states will it affect?

In the morning, the National Water Commission (Conagua) announced that tropical storm Milton continues to intensify in the western Gulf of Mexico, and will cause heavy rains to very heavy occasional rains in Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Tabasco and the Yucatan Peninsula; in addition to strong winds and high waves.

In a press conference, Méndez Girón had indicated that the cloud bands of the system will cause heavy to very heavy rains, with winds of 70 to 90 kilometers per hour and waves of two to four meters high in Campeche, Yucatán and the north of Quintana Roo. .

Also, along its path it will leave very heavy rains to intense at times in Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, with winds of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour and waves of one to three meters high on the coasts of Tamaulipas. , Veracruz and Tabasco.

With less intensity, the cloud bands due to this phenomenon will cause rain in the states of Nuevo León and Puebla this Sunday.

Given the passage of the storm, the authorities called on the population to take shelter and take precautions, since the rains could cause landslides, floods and increases in rivers and streams in the aforementioned states.
