Hector was on the show to promote his new book, The Irish Words You Should Know.

To kick of his chat with Kielty, Hector began by praising the previous guest, Irish Olympian, Rhasidat Adeleke, who was the first guest on the show tonight.

Always one for teaching Irish, Hector said: “I just thought Rhasidat Adeleke a new word as Gaeilge. Ar nos na gaoithe – which means as fast as the wind.”

A surprised Patrick asked: “She’s still here?”

Hector joked: “No she’s gone, she’s already down in Donnybrook. What a legend, isn’t she just unbelievable… she’s an icon.”

Patrick noted Hector’s increased energy compared to the last time he was on the show, which happened to be Patrick’s very fist Late Late.

Patrick said: “Well you’re an icon, you were here this time last year with Tommy, you were here with Laurita… I think that they talk too much because you were very quiet.”

Hector then cut across and said: “Look it, that night… look it, Tommy I let off because he doesn’t get much limelight at all. Laurita, you know, It’s not often a Mayo person gets on The Late Late Show so.”

Some people in the crowd let out a light chuckle, which was soon overshadowed by the boom of disapproving “oohs’ coming from the audience.

In reaction to this Hector rebutted: “Take it handy, it’s a joke. I’ve loads of friends from Mayo.”

In order to issue an appropriate apology to the people of Mayo, Hector asked: “Which camera is on?”

He continued his apology: “I want to give a big shout out to my favourite pub in the world, it’s John O’s in the square in Ballinrobe.”

Looking to the audience to see how his apology went down Hector joked: “That’s a real Mayo one isn’t it? Look at that thumbs up, there’s only two people here from Mayo. I’ll see you in the green room after, we will have a bottle of Ritz.”

Despite his slip up in studio, people at home raced to social media to show their support for Hector and his love of the Irish Language.

TOUGH CROWD

Donal wrote: “Hector, tá an cheart agat. Gaeilge abú.”

Which translates to: “Hector, you are right. Victory to Irish.”

Another fan added: “Ag déanamh iontais dár dteanga álainn. Tá Gaeilge do chách, Hector tabhair an Podchraoladh ar ais le do thoil.”

Which translates to: “Marveling at our beautiful language. Irish is for everyone, Hector please bring back the Podcast.”
