A 15-year-old boy was “stabbed 50 times” and burned alive this week in the city of Marseille, in the southeast Francein a case of violence apparently related to drugs, the prosecutor’s office reported on Sunday.
The Marseille prosecutor, Nicolas Bessone, told the press that the young man was murdered on Wednesday and described the case as one of “unprecedented savagery.”
Marseille, the second largest city in France but also one of the most impoverished, is plagued by violence related to drugs.
Bessone stated that the victims and perpetrators of these types of cases are increasingly younger.
For a few years now, this Mediterranean city has suffered a territorial war between several clans for control of the profitable drug market.
The teenager had been hired, through social networks, by a 23-year-old inmate to intimidate a competitor by setting fire to his doorsaid the prosecutor, who explained that they had promised him 2 thousand euros (about 42 thousand Mexican pesos).
However, the teenager was discovered by members of a rival gang, who attacked him dozens of stab wounds before setting it on fire.

With these last two cases, the number of drug-related murders in Marseille rises to 17 since the beginning of the year.
