Theater. A new ‘little shop of horrors’ at the Hidalgo Theater – Grupo Milenio

With a unique version for Mexicothe Broadway classic, The little shop of horrorswill arrive at the Hidalgo Theater next October 25. Juan Torresas a producer, and Ricardo Diazdirector, announced that this will be a different version than what has been seen in other regions, one that responds to the needs of the space, the theater, and the artistic level of its cast.

“We are doing our version of the little shop of horrors and we are very excited and committed more, because since we announced the project on social media we have received incredible messages. There is an important ‘fandom’ in our country that I didn’t think existed, both for the film and the musical, and this work has a very special and important message”Juan Torres commented at a press conference.

“I saw this play in 2019 before the pandemic, in this last revival in New York, and I loved it, it blew my mind. In 2020, 3 weeks before the theaters closed, the last play I saw was The Little Shop of Horrors (…) We have always been looking forward to this work.”.

Ricardo Diaz He collaborates again with Juan Torres after The Wiz and Te amo, estars perfect… Now it changes! and in addition to thanking Juan Torres for the protection and care of the “human resources” (actors, creatives, technicians…) of the play, he also explained that: “We cannot do the same version as on Broadway for a very simple reason, The theaters on Broadway are much smaller and the Teatro Hidalgo is much larger. The first challenge for us is to present it in a theater of 800 souls and all the volumes have to change. It is a slightly macabre work and the Mexican public really likes violence.”

For his part, the choreographer Pablo Rodriguez He added: “We have made a project for the Mexican public. We are not trying to make an exact replica of the work, but within what it is, we are making a version for the Mexican public. What we like to see and how the shows are in Mexico, which are high quality shows. “Mexico is, in Latin America, the country with the best production of musicals.”

Oscar Acosta stars in the work as ‘Seymour’ next to Chantal Andere, ‘Audrey’; Lorena de la Garza, Jair Campos, Sergio Jurado, Jorge Fosalido, Crisanta Gómez, Alexa Hidalgo – in his theatrical debut , Scarlett Chico, Leonora Enriquez, Felipe Álvarez, among others, they complete the company. Andere, who is working on his fourth musical with Juan Torres, thanked the producer for his trust and highlighted the opportunity to collaborate with such a complete team on such a complex work.

“Juan surprised me a lot with a call a couple of months ago to tell me that he wanted to do this musical with me, which flattered me deeply, excited me and the timing was right,” said the actress. “Nothing can make me happier than having all these talented, disciplined, talented colleagues, who love musical theater, who give their lives for their work and who are passionate about what they do.. “I am happy, with immense hope that this will come to light in a few days.”
