A group of students from the State Preschool and Primary Education normal school based in Tonalá, asked the Secretary of Education of Chiapas to modify the class schedule in the evening shift to be able to return home safely.
They make this request because they claim that in recent weeks they have been harassed by criminal groups in the area and that they fear for their safety and the lives of the students.
“Some classmates were going to their homes and they got them out of their cars, they were wrong. Obviously, they were too scared and it was a horrible situation, they forced them with weapons to get out of their cars,” said Marlene, a high school student.
The current schedule they occupy is from two in the afternoon to 10 at night, but this schedule does not provide security to the students, especially those who travel from communities to the municipal seat, since some of them cannot travel by car. public transportation and have to stay or travel by motorcycle. It is precisely in this situation where they have observed that they have been followed by members of the crime.
“This fear is experienced daily, each student goes home with that fear, their integrity may be broken. We asked for a dialogue with the management, but they never gave us that, we wanted an internal schedule readjustment, but the dialogue never happened,” said Marlene, a normal school student.
At the moment school activities have been suspended for 32 days in this normal, this because they affirm that the physical integrity of each student is compromised, for which they ask the educational authorities to mediate the situation and reach an agreement.
This Tuesday they demonstrated outside the facilities of the government palace of the State of Chiapas, to achieve a dialogue table and thus present the concerns about the safety of the students of this school, in addition to another petition.
