From their social networks, they reported that the The epicenter of the movement was located southeast of the Miguel Hidalgo municipality.
The The Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection is in communication with the municipalities to assess damage in their areas and to obtain reliable reports of any injuries or risk situations that need to be addressed.
A micro-earthquake was recorded tonight in Mexico City and was felt in Álvaro Obregón, Benito Juárez, Cuauhtémoc and Miguel Hidalgo; we have established communication with the Integrated Risk Management and Civil Protection Units of the Municipalities.
We remain vigilant.…

This is how the earthquake that “woke up” the capital was experienced
On social media, users of ‘X’ have shared the moment when they notice or begin to feel the movement of their buildings or devices hanging on the wall such as keys or ceiling lamps.
In ‘La Roma’ some of the inhabitants of the hotspot The social life of Chilanga felt the movement and did not hesitate to share the moment. This area is especially known for being one of the most affected during past earthquakes due to the type of buildings that remain in the colony, since some of them, being of high historical value, have been affected and deteriorated over time.
In some videos you can see the movement of hanging artifacts, such as: kitchen utensils, pans, decorative paintings, among others.
What is a microseism?
Microseisms are low intensity earthquakes, which are not normally perceptible except in areas very close to their epicenter.
According to information from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), These natural events come from the same geological fault.
The intensity of microseisms is usually below 2 degrees.but sometimes they exceed this magnitude, which is why the seismic alert does not emit sound, since it is activated with earthquakes that exceed a magnitude of 5.5.
This is how the seismic alert is activated and works in Mexico
The sensors monitor seismic risk zones and recognize movements within a radius of about 90 kilometers. In the first few seconds, they detect the possible magnitude and send the information to the different receiving cities. It is during this process that the detectors determine the distance between the epicenter and the cities; with this, it is decided whether or not it is necessary to broadcast the warning in these localities.
The process is as follows:
The earthquake occurs, with waves ranging between 4 and 6 kilometers per hour
It is detected in the coverage area made up of 96 sensors
Intensities are calculated and cities to be altered are selected
Radio antennas are used to send and receive the signal at the speed of light
- Which cities receive alerts?
There are eight cities in seven federal entities:
- Guadalajara
- Colima
- Morelia
- Acapulco
- Chilpancingo
- Puebla
- Oaxaca
- Mexico City
If during the first seconds of detection at least 2 stations exceed the preset energy levels, the data on the released energy and the distance are taken into consideration. This determines the activation of the system in the receivers.
The time will depend exclusively on the distance between the epicenter of the earthquake and the city in which the alert is issued; it can vary between 20 and 120 seconds.
