Tropical Storm Milton forms off Veracruz | Path

The tropical storm Milton was formed in Atlantic Oceanin the middle of a season that has already seen various phenomena of great magnitude, and after the evolution of Leslie and Kirk.

He National Weather Service (SMN) and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) issued a trajectory warning of Milton.

What effects will ‘Milton’ have in Mexico?

According to the latest models, Milton was formed from the Tropical Depression Fourteen. Its center was located 355 kilometers north-northeast of the city of Veracruz and 590 kilometers to the west-northwest of Progreso, Yucatan.

Its circulation will cause the following effects:

  • Very heavy rains with intense occasional events in Tamaulipas and Veracruz
  • Heavy rains with very strong occasional events in Nuevo León and Puebla
  • Heavy occasional rains in San Luis Potosí and Hidalgo.”
  • Wind from the north with gusts of 40 to 60 km/h on the coasts of Tamaulipas and Veracruz.

Hurricane season reached its peakboth in the Pacific and in the Atlantic. While in the Pacific the hurricane season started on May 15in the Atlantic began a few weeks later.

This period, which covers mainly the months of JulyAugust and September, is when the greatest number of tropical cyclones is recorded.

According to the Climatological Atlas of Tropical Cyclones in Mexico, these five months concentrate the most phenomena of this type.

On the other hand, the Atlantic, although at a more moderate pace In recent weeks, it continues to be a warning area for the formation of tropical storms, such as the recent development of the tropical storm Milton.

This tropical cyclone joins this list at a key moment of the seasonwhen the formation of at least 9 more phenomena is still expected, which could reach the category hurricane.

Hurricane season in Mexico

Mexico, due to its geographical location, is a country that is on the path of numerous tropical cyclones every year, both in the Atlantic and the Pacific.

The SMN estimates that, for this year’s cyclone season, between 15 and 18 cyclonesof which six have already been presented. In contrast, the Atlantic has a more active forecast, with 23 potential cyclonesof which more than 80% are still expected to be trained.

Cenapred warned that September It was a key month for storm formation that can directly affect the coasts of Mexico, since meteorological conditions usually favor the development of phenomena more intense.

However, regarding Miltonit follows closely monitoring to determine if its trajectory will undergo any changes that could represent a major threat.

What to do when cyclones arrive?

As more storms form in the Atlantic, the Tropical Cyclone Early Warning System (SIAT-CT) reinforced its recommendations for the population.

Recommendations include pruning nearby trees to electrical power cables, the protection of windows and glass, and the fixing of objects that can be displaced due to strong winds.

Before the arrival of a hurricane or tropical storm, authorities suggest that the population store non-perishable foodsdrinking water and emergency items.

Furthermore, they must identify temporary shelters and evacuation routes in case conditions worsen.

These shelters are equipped by Civil defense and are designed to ensure the safety of people in emergency situations.
