The special coordinator of the UN for the LebanonJeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, warned that the Middle East is “on the brink of imminent catastrophe” following the recent escalation of violence between Israel and the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah.
“With the region on the brink of imminent catastrophe, it cannot be stressed enough: there is no military solution that will make any of the parties more secure,” the official said. a brief statement published on the official X account of the mission of United Nations in Lebanon.

Hennis-Plasschaert expressed concern after Israel carried out a bombing on Friday against the southern suburbs of Beirut that caused At least 45 deadincluding more than a dozen senior Hezbollah officials such as Ibrahim Aqil and Ahmed Wahbiwho directed the operations of the group’s elite Radwan Forces corps.
Why did tensions between Israel and Lebanon increase?
This Israeli bombing in that capital area, known as Dahye, occurred after two Israelis attacked in the middle of last week waves of simultaneous explosions thousands of communication devices carried by Hezbollah members killed 37 people and injured nearly 3,000 in different parts of Lebanon.
