Viaplay Launches Its Subscription Channel on Prime Video in Germany

Viaplay Lands in Germany

Viaplay Content Distribution has launched its Viaplay channel as an add-on subscription to Prime Video via Prime Video Channels in Germany. Prime Video Channel subscribers can access Viaplay’s offering of Scandinavian and European series and films starting today, Oct. 22.

Viaplay’s German offering includes high-quality and impactful Nordic series and films, including award-winning Nordic noir dramas such as “End of Summer,” “Face to Face,” “The Bridge,” “Gåsmamman,” “Furia,” “Trom,” “Stockholm Requiem,” “The Sandhamn Murders,” “Unit One,” “The Team,” “Wallander,” and “Darkness: Those Who Kill.” The platform will also host three films from the Millennium/The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo franchise.

Other titles included at launch are the YA series “Threesome” and “Delete Me”; dramas “Seaside Hotel,” “Love Me,” “Pörni Seasons,” “The Beach Hotel” and “Lyckoviken”; and documentaries “The Prize of Silence,” “Operation Cannabis” and “Wozniacki & Lee.”

BBC Studios has closed a raft of deals for its scripted and factual back catalogs in territories across Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa. In Europe, Europe, Warner Bros. Discovery (France and French overseas territories), Arte.tv, M6+ and Mediawan (France), Network 4 (Hungary) and Sky Italia (Italy) have all picked up scripted packages. Unscripted packages have been secured across CEE and Sub-Saharan Africa with AMCNI CNE (Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Romania and Slovakia) and SABC (South Africa). MTVA, TV2 Media Group and Network 4 (Hungary) acquired both scripted and non-scripted packages for their channels.

Dutch Soccer’s Eredivisie Extends Partnership with IMG

Global sports, events, and representation company IMG has renewed and expanded an existing 20-plus-year partnership with the Netherlands’s top soccer league, Eredivisie. The new partnership, which has been extended through 2023, will see IMG distribute international media rights for the league and provide it global advisory services. The Eredivisie is currently available in 142 countries through 35 broadcast partners. Other IMG clients include the Premier League, CONMEBOL, Saudi Pro League, Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF), English Football League (EFL), Belgian Pro League and others.

Nippon TV’s Mother Heads to Greece

Nippon TV’s scripted drama “Mother” will be remade for a Greek audience by Alpha TV, one of the country’s largest broadcasters. Titled “Na me les mama” in Greek, which translates to “Call me mom,” the new adaptation is the 11th for the drama, the most ever for an Asian scripted format, according to Nippon TV. The series turns on a 20-something who has never had any interest in romance, society or her own well-being. After learning one of the students at her school is being abused, she kidnaps the girl to raise as her own. The “Mother” format was previously licensed to CJ E&M (South Korea), MF Yapim (Turkey), STB TV (Ukraine), Juvenile (Thailand), Radiant Pictures (China), Incognita (France), Atresmedia (Spain), Medyapim for MBC (Saudi Arabia), Green Show Productions (Mongolia), and ABS-CBN (Philippines).
