What time does Netflix release shows? Timings for Prime, Disney+ and other streamers

The arrival of autumn may mean the evenings are drawing in but the upside is television schedules tend to improve.

October heralds a host of new shows across the streaming services, with something to please even the pickiest of viewers, from Jilly Cooper‘s racy Rivals on Disney+ to political thriller The Diplomat on Netflix.

For those keen to cast their eyes on the new offerings as soon as they land, the key information is timings.

We take a look at the standards times some of the main streaming services release new shows.

What time does Netflix release its shows?

Netflix original TV shows and movies are typically released globally at 12am (Pacific Time), as the headquarters of the firm are in Los Gatos, California.

In the UK, this works out normally as 8am as Pacific Time changes in the same way as moving from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) to British Summer Time (BST) here.

Some Netflix titles are originals in one country but not in another.

In those instances, the title is available at 12am (Pacific Time) in the country where it is an original one and 12am (local time) in the countries where it is not.

The streaming service will usually share launch times in the Coming Soon section or on the details page of a TV show or movie, if the title is going to be premiering at a specific time.

What time does Amazon Prime release its shows?

Unlike Netflix, Amazon Prime Video’s standard release time for its titles is 12am Universal Time Coordinated, which is the same as GMT.

This means it works out at 1am when the UK is on BST.

However, this will sometimes change for the release of region specific titles

What time does Disney+ release its shows?

Disney+ only launched in 2019 but already has more than 150 million subscribers.

Fans of all things Marvel or Star Wars will be keen to catch the very latest from these stables including the new television series Star Wars Skeleton Crew out in December.

Disney+ is the destination for these shows and its standard release time is 12am (Pacific Time) which is 8am in the UK.

What time does Apple TV+ release its shows?

The success of shows such as Ted Lasso and Slow Horses has put Apple TV+ at the forefront of streaming services, despite being a relative newcomer in 2019.

New movies and series are added to Apple TV+ every Wednesday and Friday, though some shows release all episodes at once.

They generally drop at 12am Eastern Time, which is 4am GMT and 5am BST in the UK.

What time do other streamers release their shows?

US streaming service Paramount+ launched in 2022 and is the home of hits such as Yellowstone and back catalogue greats such as Twin Peaks.

It’s general release time for new shows is 12am Pacific Time, 3am Eastern Time and 7am in the UK.

ITV has its own streaming service ITVX and its standard release time for shows is one hour after they have been broadcast on ITV.
